Content warning: This post contains a brief mention of a suicide attempt.
Friends, Romans, countrypeople, lend me your deteriorated attention spans and allow me to formally introduce you all to Tala, an internet star who survives a suicide attempt and now must pick up the pieces of her life and face a future she could no longer see herself living in. Lately I’ve been telling people, “It’s like if Hamlet were a girl and that girl were a messy bisexual Filipina with thousands of TikTok followers.” You know, someone we can all relate to.
My Seed&Spark fundraiser is launching this Monday, June 2nd and the goal is to hit $1,500 in contributions by the 9th, with our end goal being $5,000. Objectively, $5,000 is not a lot of money to make even a short film, but even if I have to make this film for free I will simply find a way.
So, I wanted to update my Substack following that this is what has been taking up the bulk of my headspace this year. As much as I love delivering hot takes and keeping up with the discourse too, my biggest aspiration in life has always been filmmaking. That being said, because I’ve neglected this Substack so much in favor of other creative pursuits, I’d like to transition this space to primarily being updates about my film career. Naturally, that means subscription billing is paused indefinitely as well.
As always, you can still follow me @malaladita on Instagram, TikTok (and I’ve recently been more active on Tumblr as well). And follow @tala444real on Instagram and TikTok to keep up to date with the film. Thank you for your support. Love, Abby and Tala.
